How auditions and membership work
The New Zealand Secondary Student Choir operates on a two year cycle. Auditions for the 2017-2018 choir have now concluded and the new choir has been announced.
To be eligible to audition for choir membership, applicants must be full-time secondary student at a New Zealand school, including Correspondence School, and have a good voice and musical knowledge. Auditions are held in major centres and last 10-15 minutes, with the next round of auditions to be held in late 2018.
'There’s nothing quite like being able to represent your country at an international level!'
'The choir has brought me to a much higher level of singing and musicianship than I ever thought I would reach,' NZSSC members.
Commitments
Once selected, New Zealand Secondary Students Choir members commit to:
- Attending all scheduled rehearsals, which run for one week of every school holidays during membership
- Being available to tour internationally in the middle of their second year of membership
- Covering costs associated with travel and rehearsals, which are averaged out between members and kept to a minimum through funding from agencies like Creative New Zealand as well as trusts and sponsorship.
See the Auditioning page or Get in touch with our Executive Officer, Anna Bowron, if you would like to know more about joining the NZSSC in the future.
